At one time, Lolita was one of the most controversial (and scandalous) books of the 20th century, the story of the bumbling professor Humbert Humbert and his obsessive preoccupation with the nubile Lolita. Originally published in 1955 in Paris, the book was banned in the United States. It was famously made into a movie by Stanley Kubrick in 1962 and forever made heart-shaped sunglasses iconic and the name ‘Lolita’ the catch-word for dangerous girls and the men who seek them.
